The BEST mobility of Nita Morina and Liliya Dubyey has come to an end and here is a brief overview of their stay in Delft!

From October 1st to October 31st, 2024, Nita Morina and Liliya Dubyey, two PhD students from the Technical University of Darmstadt had the opportunity to visit Basilisk Concrete in Delft, Netherlands. Hosted by CEO Bart van Woerd, the visit focused on advancing self-healing concrete technology and exploring its industrial applications.

During their time at Basilisk, the students worked on optimizing the use of self-healing products to better align with industry needs. They conducted laboratory experiments, including testing the rheological properties of concrete mixtures, and explored different biopolymer production methods—crucial for application of self-healing agents.

A key highlight of the visit was the opportunity to engage with Henk Jonkers, a pioneer in bacteria-based self-healing concrete, to discuss advanced characterization methods for this innovative technology. Additionally, they attended a lecture on concrete making at TU Delft and took part in a ZDF documentary showcasing the potential of self-healing materials in sustainable construction.

The collaboration provided a well-rounded perspective on self-healing concrete, from fundamental research to real-world applications. The experience was both insightful and impactful, strengthening knowledge exchange between academia and industry while contributing to the advancement of sustainable building materials.
