SPP 2436 Group Meeting in Weimar
2026/05/04
From 27–29 April 2026, the DFG Priority Programme 2436 “Net Zero Concrete” held a group meeting at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, bringing together researchers to exchange progress and strengthen collaboration. The programme combined research presentations with a dedicated workshop on microstructural imaging of cement and concrete, highlighting interdisciplinary approaches towards climate-neutral concrete.
Researchers of the DFG Priority Programme 2436: Net Zero Concrete gathered from 27 to 29 April 2026 at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for a group meeting and accompanying workshop, bringing together project partners to exchange progress, strengthen collaboration, and advance ongoing research towards net-zero concrete.
A central focus of the meeting was the presentation of ongoing work by PhD researchers across the programme. These sessions enabled in-depth discussions and valuable feedback, not only within individual research groups but also across the wider network of participating professors and institutions. This collective exchange plays a key role in refining research directions and strengthening connections between different areas of work.
In addition, the meeting highlighted the interaction between the three core research pillars of the programme: experimental research, modelling, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Each group shared recent developments, illustrating how material innovation, predictive approaches, and environmental assessment are being integrated. The continuous exchange between these domains fosters ongoing feedback and helps align individual research efforts with the broader objectives of the programme.
As part of the programme, PhD Students also attended a workshop on Microstructural Imaging of Cement and Concretes, led by Dr. Christiane Rößler and Florian Kleiner. The session covered both fundamental principles and practical aspects of microstructural characterisation, including method selection, sample handling, and interpretation of results. Particular emphasis was placed on often overlooked but critical details, such as systematic labelling of samples and the use of software tools for image-based analysis.
The group meeting in Weimar once again highlighted the strength of collaboration within SPP 2436. Through open discussions, shared expertise, and structured exchange, the programme continues to build a strong foundation for advancing research towards net-zero concrete.
